Marvellous.
This book provides a valuable insight into an era of excitement and adventure into a way of life.

This fascinating read is well illustrated and has an interesting chapture on the pop scence which is not to be missed.

An excellent read even for those who missed this era and an interesting read for those were there.

A vibrant insight into a fascinating British led sub-culture
Whether new to the scene or an ardent follower, Scooter Boys captures the essence of a generation. Scooter Boys gives you the flavours of an era where scooters surpassed a mode of transport and became a way of life.

A well written balance of social history and anecdotal recollections supported by a mix of revealing pictures.

For those who were there it brings back memories of a golden age. For those who weren't this well written and witty book gives a colourful insight into what they have missed.

This was a wonderful and compelling read that had to be returned to again and again. Definately one for the bookshelf.

The Self

A year later I am still using this book as a reference
First, I should say that I was a student of Dr. Brown's and took his class in which we used this book as the text. But, I still find the information contained in this book useful even now that I am no longer a student. I found this area of psychology very applicable to my daily life, and I am surprised that this is the only book on self-psychology available on the market. He writes in a clear, entertaining manner and he makes the concepts easy to understand. This is a valuable reference to me, and I am certain it will continue to be as I enter graduate study in psychology.

Scholarly, insightful, and accessible
Jonathon Brown has created a book that works in both the home and the classroom. Written as a text for upper-level psychology classes in self-psychology, it manages to span the usual gap between 'informative' and 'engaging.' An excellent read for the interested layperson and an invaluable resource for the academic. Bravo!

An enchanting story of a lady who learned to be content .
An well-written true story compiled from diary entries and other personal narrative writings of a woman born around the turn of the century. She chose to stay ina beautiful but remote area of Colorado on a piece of property that she and her husband had homesteaded, even after his untimely death. Very simply and eloquently written, very philosophical. She was alone but not lonely, she enjoyed the magnificent beauty of nature and chose to be content. I want to read it again!

t

wonderful and impressive
This is a wonderful story of a young lady born in Texas, and settled in the elk river valley with her husband. The story gives you a impression of the hard life to survive as only woman in this area running a farm.

What an adorable boy!!
I loved this book! Especially the cute little boy on the left-hand corner of the cover. That's my adorable friend Jon!!

Someone Special, Just like you
I volunteered to put together a group of books for my daughter's preschool (ages 3 1/2-4) which dealt with the topic of diversity and disabilities. I have ordered and read about 15-20 children's books on the subject of children with handicaps. By far this was the very best one that I came across. It had beautiful photographs of children with all types of disabilities and the message in this book (unlike several others which I read) was 100% positive. What I mean by this is that while some other books on disabilities may deliver a message that says "don't be mean, or tease children with disabilities" , etc., this one was totally focused on all children as being lovable and worthwhile people -- very focused on only a positive message. I really enjoyed it and my daughter's class also did. The message is simple, straightforward and very warm. Compared to other books on the subject, this one really was written at a good level for the 3-4 age group.

Southern Exposure is top notch in my book!
I got a hold of this book by a friend who told me about it. I don't read much but had to read this one. My friend said that they read it and told me about several good parts of the book. Like her trip to Panama, jail times, the stripping was the best. The story of her fighting with her dad over Gold Coins. I would have shot him. But she did get her revenge in the end. Really enjoyed the book. Must Read to find out the outcome.!!!!

Awesome! Loved IT!!!
While reading this book- I laughed and at times I cried for her but she made me feel like second best was the best place to be. There were times that I felt that I wished I was right there with her, jail and all. The romance department made me want more. She told of lovers but in a suspenseful way. No Porn. The chapter on daddy and daughter butt heads was sad but she made it possible to be just like DADDY. She made me wish more and more that I was eighteen living in those times, being in her dancing shoes. With me not being rich and knowing that rich kids have a life too.

Spooky Riddles
Published in Hardcover by (August, 1992)
Author: Brown
Average review score:

Wonderful Book!
My 6 1/2 year old LOVES to read this book! The riddles are funny and easy to understand. Each page has about 10 words to read so it's not too challenging but not too easy either(my son becomes frustrated with too many words per page). He also loves to tell these riddles(jokes)to family and friends. Pictures are silly looking not scary at all. Highhly recommended.

Be Prepared To Hear These Jokes A Lot!
My 4 and 6 year olds love this book. It's great easy reading for them and they love the punchlines! Even Grandpa laughed!

sports talent
This book is so helpful for parents who want to do the right thing for their child/athlete but have no guidance and must depend on the local coach/teacher. This book puts the child first and gives sound advice on getting the most out of the individual for the sake of that individual. This book is also helpful to the coach who needs positive backing with the written word. Often we may say and do the right things with our young athletes and their parents, but it is so helpful to have credible backing. If more parents/coaches/teachers had this book to follow years ago, we would not have a lot of the problems that we have from beginner to professional athlete. Our professional athletes are who they are because of early year coaching and mentoring. I wish that I could make coaches, parents and athletes young and old read this wealth of information. We are seeing an influx of older citizens taking up lifetime, competitive sports for the first time and there needs to be guidance for them also. I am going to ask that my academic dean allow this book to be used as a text for my teaching theory class at my community college. I am a tennis teaching professional/community college faculty member/men-women community college tennis coach/director of tennis at a public tennis facility/and still an avid competitor, and will refer to this book often in all of those entities. This text will be something that my students who are future coaches can use as a reference for years from now. Thank you for this opportunity to review. It's not often getting a chance to catapult such a positive, educational book.

This is a Must Read
This book just became required reading for the parents of my tournament players. Dr. Brown has done an excellent job with the interviews and research for this book. The tennis references are very impressive. Stella Sampras, Jim Loehr, and Dick Gould literally pack every paragraph with valuable information.

I started using the physical tests for my juniors this week, and I was surprised to see a few of them in the upper percentages. I've also added two of the tests to my lesson plan for new students.

Stop Domestic Violence: An Action Plan for Saving Lives

It works, and it does save lives.
I am one of the authors, and wanted to update my comments from 1997. I am now a full time attorney - my email is mlm@laislaw.com

I have gotten many faxes, calls, letters, emails etc. from survivors and family members who tell me that the book really gave them the tools they needed to stay safe and recover.

It's not a book to buy and give to a victim - it is one to buy and READ, so that you can help a victim when she asks for help. Read it, then share it.

Merritt

Excellent characterization of abused spouses.
I saw myself in the pages. "Learned helplessness" is a phenomenon that is very difficult to understand if you are not a victim. Additionally, our court system (for lack of a better term) is well represented. This well written book validated my decisions as I hope it will for others. Thank you.

Strong Brown God: The Story of the Niger River
Published in Paperback by Houghton Mifflin Co (Pap) (February, 1991)
Author: Sanche De Gramont
Average review score:

Very good
The book is very good and easy to read (includes maps and a good index). It is true that the author only shows some aspects of its subject matter (mostly european discovery, conquest and colonisation) and thus the book may be considered a bit limited in its scope, but otherwise it would have probably missed the target becoming a tedious scholarly volume. Nevertheless it is a very interesting introduction to the area and gives a good insight of the way the french and the british faced and handled their imperial aspirations.

I also strongly reccomend the excellent book on the River Congo by Peter Forbath, which follows a similar pattern and which will help you complete a vast panorama on West Africa.

Wonderful
A wonderfully readable history of the Niger River, and the fascinating personalities that made that history.
